Keeping in Touch - International School of Service Spotlightsby Pam Ping, Global Training Manager Feed my sheep. Our SOS graduates have faithfully obeyed this command of Jesus. Their stories are inspiring . . . many must overcome obstacles of persecution, low income, cultural barriers, spiritual warfare . . . . It's thrilling and humbling to witness the impact one week of training here in Ohio can have in the lives of thousands around the world! We invite you to join us in celebrating and praying for the Lord's purposes through them -- to heal, to equip, and to transform people and nations: to truly set His people free! As a few of our graduates said, "I have never experienced such a wonderful gift from God than this free transformational training. I experienced true love from God through people who hosted, served and taught us. EMI is teaching really powerful and would make a great impact in the lives of many people." Change from the Inside Out![]() A conversation with two experienced teachers of EMI's Renewing the Mind course, Mary Lynne Rapien and Pat Scholz. Both Mary Lynne and Pat are counselors and certified EMI trainers. What excites you about the Renewing the Mind course? Mary Lynne: "RTM is a tool that can help you change behaviors and feelings that are not life-giving. The basic concept is that our feelings and responses to events are based on our beliefs. Challenging beliefs and renewing them to conform to life-giving beliefs based on God's truth can change lives and relationships. When I don't like some of my reactive behaviors or my feelings, it is a wake-up call to put RTM in action." Pat: "Renewing the Mind is a helpful tool to really "put on the mind of Christ." Learning to renew your mind can bring profound effects in one's life - changing faulty, non-biblical beliefs to God's healthy, enduring truths. Truth CAN alter our feelings about the most painful offenses committed against us and heal those memories while helping us to set more Christ-like behavioral goals. We can forgive and move on to feats we never dreamed possible with our old mindset." Can you share how you have seen God work through this course? Pat: "It has personally helped me to attempt to do ministry that I would not have been confident or brave enough to do. It has helped change my perspective about people and given me confidence to speak the truth in love, so in turn deepening and strengthening family, close friend and colleague relationships. I have seen the most stubborn men & women, set in their ways of thinking -- sometimes from birth because of ungodly beliefs instilled in them -- gain hope that just maybe life can be different, maybe they do matter, maybe they can have a purpose here in life, maybe God does love them, maybe some dreams & passions can be fulfilled despite the messes they have made in their lives. By renewing their minds with God's word instead of worldly accusations, they sometimes realize for the first time that God really loves & cares for them -- hope happens."

Tapestry - Intercultural Exchange - January 2010
tap.es.try We live in a multi-cultural society, but our lives rarely intersect with people outside of a regular routine. Although most long for deeper interpersonal connection, it rarely happens. What if there is an occasion that brings together people from different cultures and language backgrounds, giving those with the heart for ministry opportunities to connect, share ideas and resources, and be better equipped for ministry? Exciting things will happen. Apostle Paul longed for the heart of believers in Colossae to be "encouraged, being knit together in love." (Col. 2:2) That idea of believers weaving together by strong ties of love breaks through the isolated lives people and churches experience. International and ethnic congregations especially do not have access to resources enjoyed by culturally mainstream churches. So the time is ripe for a conference that is tailored to the needs of ethnic churches and church leaders with limited resources. The first EMI Tapestry Conference will be held in Los Angeles, CA. This is actually two low-cost conferences wrapped up in one. January 18-22, 2010: LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE. $99. For international pastors and leaders. The focus is providing quality resources for pastors to empower and raise up their lay leaders. It will be an exciting combination of inspiration and learning practical equipping tools. Featured speakers are currently leading ethnic churches and ministering in cross-cultural settings. January 22-23, 2010: EVANGELISM CONFERENCE. $50. The theme is Outflow, mobilizing and inspiring people to live an outwardly-focused lifestyle. This is open for anyone to attend. Catch the vision of how to reach your community for Christ. Dave Ping, co-author of the Outflow book, will be the keynote speaker, along with host pastor Dan Sandoval, multi-cultural church leader. Imagine: the pastor gets equipped and key leaders get excited about what God can do. Walk away with a renewed vision of reaching your community for Christ. The cost of this conference is also important. The Tapestry Leaders Conference costs only $99 for four and half days. The Outflow weekend conference will only be $50. This is a fraction of what you expect to pay for the quality training you will receive. Conference will be hosted by Church on the Hill in Redlands, CA, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, CA. See you there!
