Word From Director Dave Ping

Coming Home

A few weeks ago I had a thought-provoking conversation with a young woman who had been exposed to our ministry's teachings at a Bible school while preparing for the mission field. She put into words something I've seen over and over in my 20 plus years with EMI.

"Though I didn't know it, something was missing from my life and my ministry. I felt confident in the skills I'd learned for teaching the Bible and sharing the Gospel, but when I had my first EMI course it was like coming home. I'd never experienced such warmth and openness with God or such love for others . . . I knew that this was what I was made for."

As God reveals new dimensions in your relationship with Him and with the people He loves, somehow it always feels like coming home. When you follow Jesus into foreign spiritual territory, remember John 14:2 says He has gone ahead to prepare a place for you and to welcome you home.

I am excited to personally invite you, everyone who's been touched by our ministry over the last three and a half decades, and all "who don't know what's missing from your lives yet" to come home to EMI. Come re-connect with friends from the past, from around the USA, and from around the world. Come connect with new friends you haven't met yet. Come and re-experience the touch of the Holy Spirit. Come celebrate what God has done and is doing at EMI. Come catch a vision for what God has in mind for the future!

Half-A-Million Changed Lives Later

Back in the 1970's only God knew that the workshops being taught in the basement of College Hill Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati would spark a worldwide ministry that would reach people in every state in the USA and over 65 countries worldwide.

The idea of equipping "ordinary" church volunteers to serve in many of the ways traditionally reserved for professional pastors and therapists was nothing short of revolutionary. EMI founder, Dr. Gary Sweeten, realized that combining solid biblical teaching with practical relationship skills and the power of the Holy Spirit results in a life-changing explosion of healing and growth!

The ministry explosion that started all those years ago at College Hill Presbyterian Church created a chain reaction as "ordinary" people began equipping others in different churches and cities, and eventually in more than 65 countries. Soon they multiplied everything they had received tenfold, a hundredfold, a thousandfold! We are constantly praising God for all He has done, and on October 2-4 we're inviting you to come home to EMI and celebrate with us, and honor those who were instrumental in founding EMI.

Outflow Tour New Zealand

EMI Director Dave Ping and Global Training Manager Pam Ping are leading outreach conferences in cities all over the country of New Zealand during the month of May. The events are sponsored by the Love Your Neighbor Network, a division of Campus Crusade for Christ.

Love Your Neighbor equips local churches to be agents of transformation in their communities through prayer, caring relationships, and evangelistic sharing. It's a perfect fit for EMI. They have promoted EMI's Irresistible Evangelism training for severall years and are looking to OUTFLOW as the next logical step.

The goal for the May equipping events is to inspire church members to listen, to wonder with, and to serve the unchurched people around them in ways that naturally turn to conversations about Jesus Christ.

SOS Grads Reach the World

In April, Rev. Prem & Lilian Premkumar (EMI School of Service class of '05) realized their dream of building an equipping facility to train pastors, leaders, and youth in Southern India.

Their vision has been to offer EMI relationship, leadership, and counseling courses such as Listening for Heaven's Sake, Speaking the Truth in Love, Renewing the Mind, Gift Path, and Guiding Life-Changing Small Groups, as well as training in theology, church planting, youth ministry, and discipleship.

Gade Chew of Bangkok, Thailand, (EMI School of Service class of '08) helped lead 16 Korean missionaries at the YWAM School of Biblical Counseling through Listening for Heaven's Sake with EMI certified teacher Anne Clippard in April. Gade is preparing to return to Bangkok to establish a YWAM Christian counseling center that will use EMI courses to help clients.

Starting May 23, 2009, Professor Josiah Shindi (School of Service class of '09) of Benue State University in Nigeria will begin offering EMI training programs targeted to pastors and church elders in East-central Nigeria. He also hopes to equip the next generation of his own congregation to become "practical Christians, demonstrating the Word in action."

On April 28, 2009 Rev. Vijayan Chinnappan (EMI School of Service class of '07) graduated 123 lay pastors from his year-long 200-hour certificate training program that included eight EMI courses. The young men and women from his Torch Bearers program will serve in village churches throughout Southern India!
