Sample A Taste of the NEW Outflow Training

EMI has developed a NEW Outflow outreach training to help individuals and congregations implement strategies for evangelism. "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8b NIV)

When Jesus gave his final instructions before ascending into heaven, he laid out a basic approach we can use in equipping people for outflow:

First, churchgoers must be continually filled with the Spirit. This means being equipped to find their personal Jerusalem ? where they encounter God and grow closer to him. As they experience genuine spiritual power in their own lives, it will flow into relationships with family members and friends. Just as the first disciples had to learn to share Jesus in their hometowns throughout Judea, today's Christians need to be equipped "to give an answer to everyone who asks [them] to give the reason for the hope that [they] have. But do this with gentleness and respect." (1 Peter 3:15b NIV)

Second, we also need to equip Christians and give them plenty of opportunities to reach beyond their comfort zones. Just as Christ commanded his followers to be witnesses in Samaria with people they'd normally avoid, the outflow culture is about reaching a more diverse and exciting array of people than ever before. As God creates an outflow momentum within your church, finding ways to reach out to the ends of the earth will start to become second nature.

Are You Ready for a Change?

Most people do not change very much over a lifetime. Many of us prefer to stick to our established ways of living and relating, even in the midst of dysfunction. We focus our energy on trying to change circumstances rather than ourselves. We cling to what?s familiar. Family and friends often reinforce existing patterns, pressuring us to stay the same, because change is threatening.

Being a Christian is about transformation: change and growth. Paul writes to the Colossian Christians, ?We proclaim (Christ), admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.? Col. 1:28-29(NIV). As Paul allowed himself to be transformed by God, he became a change agent to help others experience the positive power of God in their lives.

Are you ready to make a change? The Breaking Free from the Past seminar is a catalyst to help free you from dealing with issues of bondage, shame, or rebellion. Change rarely happens in a vacuum. Bring a willing heart; God supplies the power. Together with loving encouragement and accountability from others, growth will occur.

Breaking Free uses all the EMI skills and principles from Listening for Heaven?s Sake, Speaking the Truth in Love, Renewing the Mind, and Embracing God?s Grace to help a person walk out of a place of 'stuck-ness' into freedom. This seminar is an extended time of personal ministry with skilled facilitators who will help you search out past issues and pray with you.

You will walk away having experienced God?s love and freedom in a significant way.

Two years ago our family hit a very bumpy road. Our teenage son was struggling with some difficult inner personal issues, as well as typical teen moodiness. Tension became our home environment.

My husband and I tried to communicate with him in the midst of our son's confusion, anger, fear, and pain. We just kept butting heads.

We realized we could not change our son, and that we were 50% of the formula that was contributing to ugly conflict. We decided to change ourselves. That's when we attended Listening for Heaven's Sake at EMI's LIFE seminar. The skills we learned were life changing. We realized the importance of listening to help our son feel understood. Within a couple months of taking the course, the atmosphere in our home was noticeably different.

In the next six months our communication patterns with our son dramatically changed. As parents, we still find ourselves making mistakes in our communication -- such as overreacting and lecturing. Then we ask forgiveness and pull ourselves back on course, remembering to use the listening skills we learned through EMI.
